A Milestone of Sorts

30. January 2006

I was just sitting down to do the finances, which I am often behind on, and I came across a happy little fact I had noticed was quickly approaching a couple of months back. February represents the last of my Northwestern student loan payments. (Not sure why I ended that with just a period, perhaps it should have been more in the ‘!!!!!’ vein…) I should actually thank my parents for being able to pay it off now (and not some 10 years more down the road) because of their commitment to our education. (Thanks!)

In any event, the timing is somewhat humorous to me since it is also in the last several months we have begun (pre-)paying for another college education: Colin’s. And, while he may not choose to go there as Debra reminds me over and over, to save enough for Colin to also go to Northwestern requires our saving … wait for it … $350 per month, every month, starting with his birth month.

Oy.

Slapstick

28. January 2006

Matt is considering a career change into slapstick humor. He practiced on Colin and I today by walking smack dab into a sign pole.

It was so funny that I had tears in my eyes. Colin, however, remained asleep. I think that was his way of saying “Don’t quit your day job, Dad.”

It’s not about anything else, either. But it seemed like it was time for a non-Colin related post.

Paparazzi Photos Leak Onto the Internet

12. January 2006

Colin has long had problems with paparazzi photographers trailing his every move—and sinisterly those photographers often dress like his father—but recently Christmas Day photos leaked onto the Internet and paint a picture of an out-of-control young man.

What started as a quiet morning spent with family—including Grandma Reed!—learning about “big” animals and “little words” quickly spiraled out of control. Colin watchers immediately began asking who is that girl he’s with and why is he hanging out wtih a monkey?!?!

Photos chronicle an underage driver attempting to operate heavy farm machinery well before he can even pick John Deere green out of a color swatch book. Catching Colin on a break from discing the … uh … kitty litter? … an eagle-eyed photographer with a telephoto lens caught the dashing young man whispering sweet nothings to the mystery lady. It seems the two were spending the holiday together.

In true Russell Crowe style, Colin was later spotted flying into a fit of rage when his milk was not promptly served upon his request—his mother had some presents to open, too! Colin shredded whatever paper he could get his hands on (widespread reports that he also ripped a phone book in half were photographically documented). A local cat was at first shocked at the disturbance young Colin was causing but ultimately appreciated the playthings his tantrum created.

Colin and the young starlet—sources confirmed for us that the woman is named “Boo” and had a prominent role in the Pixar film Monsters, Inc.—found some quiet time to play kissy face later in the day. Upon discovery, Colin’s parents quickly separated the two. Colin’s mother was quoted as saying, “she seems like a nice enough girl, but we haven’t even met her parents!” Members of Colin’s entourage insist the two are not dating immediately stoking speculation that the two are actually engaged.

At the end of a long day (well, probably at 10:30 in the morning), photographs show an exhausted Colin finally collapsed in a stupor amidst his holiday baubles.

For their part, lawyers for the young celebrity-in-his-parents’-mind vow lawsuits against those who leaked these photographs onto the internet… Hey! How else is he going to pay for four years at Northwestern?

Our Growing Boy

Colin had his second check up with Dr. Wendy today. It was a very exciting appointment for us as we found out that Colin is growing like a weed! He’s 24 inches long and weighs 15lbs 5.5oz! That puts him as very much above average on the growth charts, but Wendy assures me his growth will slow down at some point.

He also got 3 shots. There were some tears shed, but most were before the shots because it was awfully hot in the waiting room. Both mom and baby made it through okay. Although I’m worried about holding his legs now because I’m sure they hurt! Thank goodness for baby tylenol.

Here are some fun pictures of Colin. Please note the DEFINITE dimple on the left side in the first photo.

I actually got a picture of his smiling face, although it’s a side angle since I couldn’t get him to look at me!

Thanks to Therese for the ADORABLE shirt.

Gotta run though, time to feed him… again…
