Sophia and Colin

Colin spent a lot of this summer at the park with his best friend from school, Sophia. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday we would go to a park around the corner and Sophia and Colin would play in the water together. Their favorite game was Help! Help! One of them would get “stuck” and would yell Help Help until the other one took them by the hand and unstuck them. Quite adorable.

Colin is in his pajamas outside because it was pajama day at school. Sophia’s mom, Joana, had managed to change her into a swimsuit prior to her getting wet, but since he was already wet I didn’t bother…

Battery Operated Thomas

First I must tell you we are potty training. Despite some frustration it’s going quite well. Today Colin sat on the potty twice and just went and then continued on his day. As opposed to him sitting forever waiting for the pee to come…

As a reward for filling up a potty chart with stickers by going pee and poo in the potty Colin got as his reward a battery operated thomas. It’s pretty cool, by far his favorite toy at the moment. It’s got a pretty strong engine, can pull several cars up the hills we have. It can also do some serious damage on mom’s hair.

For the record, I don’t ever recommend allowing a child “chug” his/her battery operated train under your head if you have long hair.

Here’s Thomas right after I ripped him out of my hair:

And this is the rats nest that was my hair after he was gone:

The Binky Tree

27. August 2008

It has happened. We have been talking to Colin about how binkies are for babies and that some day very soon, before he turned 3, we would collect all of his binkies and send them to the binky tree in Copenhagen. Yesterday Colin decided was the day. Despite several warnings that it would mean no more binkies he was quite adamant that we send them off to the binky tree “today”. Today being yesterday, he just has a very cute way of saying today.

We collected all of the binkies we could find into a box, wrapped it, colored it, put “stamps” on it and then left it out for daddy to mail.

We have gone to sleep 3 times since the binkies were gone and only a casual mention has been made by Colin. He did get up this am at like 5:30 and his afternoon nap was only 1.5 hours, as opposed to 2-3 hours, which I think may be a side effect to the loss of the binky.

Hopefully we won’t hear mention of them again, although I have read that cold turkey like this works for a few days and then the child starts to miss them again, so we could be in for a rough weekend.

But the binkies are actually at Matt’s office, so there is no turning back! Hooray for growing up!

A wonderful thing happened on the way to… uh… work? Well, it was still wonderful. And it is definitely something I have added to my mental “to do” list.

Thanks to our friend Katie for sharing her story.

Question, Answer and a LOL

Question: why are we so upset by Michael Vick and his dog fighting “issue” yet seemingly indifferent to the bullfights happening Pamplona (et al.) each year? What’s the difference? Kind of a real question, but also kind of a rhetorical one. Deb suggests the issue is simply that dogs are pets and bulls are, well, bulls…

This video is the answer to the question: “What is Colin’s current favorite game.” That’s right… Who hasn’t played a good game of Fall Over in their day.

I had a good old-fashioned LOL when I read the take on Silicon Alley Insider take on the press release Dow Jones issued about some General Manager changes and my coming back to The Wall Street Journal Digital Network.
