ells dot me

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up that while ellsworthlink.net will continue to exist — and Deb will be posting to it still — I am going through a bit of an online “re-brand” around ells.me / ELLSdotME / ellsDOTme / ells-dot-me / whatever… So you can follow that madness by clicking over to ells.me or by subscribing to the RSS feed.

Colin’s 5th Birthday, a set on Flickr.

Colin’s birthday was a while ago now, but we thought we’d post the rest of the photos…

4×400 Meter Relay (in 1992) aka “I used to be a runner…”

A hundred years ago (or 18-ish) I used to be a competitive runner. And I used to run with a good group of guys — Ryan Thorn, Jason Brunette, Jay Lillie — in the 4×400 and some other folks in the 4×800 in high school. Loved my experience at Northwestern University, but kind of wish I could have built on the high school successes… Whatevs. Fun to watch two decades later. Even Colin thought it was cool… (“Again!”)

Yeah, that’s me anchoring.

4: Moi…

Thanks to my lil’ brother for turning this VHS tape into a DVD a couple (more?) years back that I finally uncovered and turned into 1′s and 0′s I could upload to YouTube…

“Fun Day” @ Swim Class

Colin had a great time at Swim Class today at the Maplewood Community Pool. A big benefit of joining is the free swim lessons (just for Colin; Hannah can do them next year) that are building on his classes from the Summit YMCA. Anyway, check out the video of his first jump off a diving board (!)… No fear. Love it!

Geek Alert

YourFonts.com Online Font Generator
I used to be a huge font geek. I would amass great quantities of fonts only to use my favorite dozen on every project… Anyway, over the years I’ve drifted away from caring about fonts—probably because I don’t do much design/publishing work anymore—until I came across YourFonts.com. The font below? Yeah: my handwriting.

It’s funny: why does what seem to pass for the height of digital cool mean taking an analog “thing” and making it usable on my computer? What’s wrong with me? (Note how I ask this on the blog so Deb has a maximum of a thousand characters to answer that question.)

Ladies & Gentlemen…

He really did do this spontaneously. It all started with him climbing up on the stepping stool and “giving a speech” to mommy & daddy and then we turned the lights off to oogle our newly decorated Christmas Tree when he “introduced it” to us… I’ll admit we had him do it again after we grabbed the camera, but it was substantively the same as when he just randomly did it the first time. Silly kid.

.

We also had a company holiday party at Tavern on the Green [left pic] this weekend which was fun… But not as much fun as Colin had that morning riding the New Jersey Transit train (a.k.a. the “daddy train”) into the city to watch a screening of The Tale of Despereaux. First big-train train ride and first in-theatre movie for Colin. Plus the holiday party. Plus buying and decorating the Christmas Tree [right pic] after watching Watoto at church. He was exhausted and went to sleep so easily tonight. We loved it!

Colin’s a Rockstar

Colin is a rockstar all because his buddy Ceci and her parents Sandra and Charles got Colin a drum (please note additional noisemakers features of the drum the cymbal and cow bell). Admittedly Colin loves the drum and has a lot of fun deafening his parents singing and drumming, but we will have to make sure and find a nice retaliatory present holiday gift for Ceci.
