I think this is a good look for Colin. He is particularly fond of it.

I figured now might be a good time to list some of Colin’s favorite things so that years from now we can come back and laugh!
- Thomas - don’t get me started. I think this obsession may become expensive one day.
- Sharks - Bruce, Hammerheads, Megoladons, Wobbegongs, Cookie Cutter, yes, we know them all.
- Trucks - Fire Trucks, Backhoe loaders, cherry pickers, bulldozers, excavators, I’m sure there are million more.
- Trains - See Thomas
- Little Einsteins - “We’re going on a trip in our favorite rocket ship… Pat pat pat pat…”
- Bob the Builder - He doesn’t love to watch it, he just loves to sing the song
- Goodnight Moon - He has started to recite a lot of it
- Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel - “Excavator book?”
- Finding Nemo - See Sharks. Although he loves Jacques, Peach, Mr Ray, Dory, Marlin and of course Nemo.
- Little Mermaid - Who knew an almost 2 year old could have a crush. The only princess thing I’ve bought for him so far are princess vitamins. I think I see a Little Mermaid pillow case in this boy’s future. Like father, like son. (side note: how is this going to translate to Broadyway!?!?)
- Blocks - See trains (he stacks them in a line and pushes them like a train)
- Eeyore - Not so much an obsession as a necessity for night night. And yes, we are slightly partial to classic Eeyore (although not entirely)

Sharks!!!! Colin, you and me kid. I have quite the extensive collection. In fact, I think I may have given you your first shark, but as I recall, the cats may have co-opted it.

“Little Shark” was buried for a long time, but is now a permanent fixture by his side and in his crib along with Eeyore, big shark, Deb’s childhood bear, a second–identical–Eeyore, a stuffed alligator, a Thomas pillow and a quilt made by his aunt and grandma. And yes, there is still room for him.

Dylan also had a crush on Ariel at that age. Did you see where they found that the Baby Einstein videos (not Little Einsteins) actually hinder language acquisition? Also, trains are in his blood…right dad?

There is something about that mermaid. She was Jake’s first princess crush too. But now he likes them all and when he sees Cinderella he points and says, “Mommy.” I swear he came up with that all on his own!
Incidentally, Jake has just shown interest in Mike Mulligan as well, though we haven’t made it through that whole book in one sitting. He prefers The Little Engine That Could.

Dave S is right that trains are in his future. It is in his blood. I am glad to see the young one has some many interests (including girls). I am sure that Mom and Dad are saying he can start dating when he is 30 and the first few years will be double dates (with Mom and Dad).

I enjoy keeping up on my most-distant grandchild through this medium — for those times when we can’t be together. Colin is capable and charming. I hadn’t thought I was that interested in babies and very young children, but Colin and Jake are showing a lot of personality, and you can take pictures of them with confidence in the results.
I miss the gentle head-bumps we did when we were together. Colin’s laugh brightens my world.
