No Wonder I’m an Idiot

Deb sent me this article; definitively proving why I am such an idiot. (Hint—it isn’t the pot part of this article.)

It does make some interesting points about feeling “tired and lethargic” from being constantly interrupted—I can see that. Since reading the article, I’ve tried to be very conscious about not interrupting my workflow each time I hear the new email chime and I have increased my productivity twelve-fold. Okay, not really, but it has seemed to have an impact.

Also interesting to me that this research was sponsored by HP, which has long touted it “always on internet infrastructure;” I wonder if the gentleman who signed that research check still has a job…

I know from personal experience how dramatically interruptions affect my ability to get things done.

I make a point of closing the door to my office, turning the phone off, and turning off new e-mail beeps when I’m working on “office” type tasks. I get more done and I end up feeling better.

There are probably only a few things you can do to improve things at work (though that’s worth trying), but you may be able to defend yourself more at home and give your self some renewing rest

Bro. Matt, thank you for “field-testing” the article from the other end — the sensible end. I had not done so.

I wonder, though, what is the effect of a retired couple being more constantly available to each other than ever before — and this added to a habit of keeping up with e-mails.

We could be tossing 17 points out the window without even smoking wacky t’baccy — which we aren’t about to start.

Next up: E-mails and Alzheimer’s? Well, never mind, this is bad enough, IQ loss and fatigue. You may be sure I’ll keep up with every last note in this important issue, if I have to stay up all night to do it!
