Fractured Clavicle

Monday | April 28, 2008

Colin

Colin got his x-rays done today. He did a great job laying steal to have a picture taken of his bones. Perhaps when daddy comes home he can update this post with a scan of his x-ray!

It is official though, he fractured his clavicle, aka collarbone. It turns out that even though it sounds terrible it’s not that bad at all. There is nothing they can do for it. If he was older they would put his arm in a sling, but there is no way he would be ok with that. He will limit his own activity based on his discomfort and we can give him tylenol to help.

In about 4 weeks he should be using all of his arm again, since right now he only uses from the elbow down.

Thank you for the information. Somehow, I think Colin will heal quite rapidly, just because he seems one of those people who does so much rapidly. Do you have to be careful about how you hug him? That was almost my first thought.

ouch! When my little sister was somewhere near Colin’s age she had a broken collarbone. Back in those days, all broken bones were put in casts. So she had her little wing folded across her chest in a cast! She sucked 2 fingers at that age, I believe the first and middle fingers, can’t recall which hand, they were sticking out of the cast.
