It was a sad day for the Hobokenite Ellsworth’s: it was the day Matt lost his computer.
…to his son…
Yes. That is Colin—for the first time ever—sitting at the computer by himself playing his favorite “game” AlphaBaby. If you have a Mac (and a young child), I can’t recommend the software enough. It allows you to let your kid pound away on the keyboard without worrying about deleting, moving, changing, etc. any of your files. But it also let’s you child learn shapes and numbers while they press the various buttons on your keyboard. I love it, but more importantly, Colin loves it.
I’m curious if there is something similar on the PeeCee side of the fence, but since I don’t have one I’ve never bothered to look. Let us know if you can be bothered and if you come up with something. We end up showing lots of people AlphaBaby and they want it, but don’t have a Mac.

That is so cute! I do not know if there is a PeeCee version of this program, but Conor had learned to use the computer quite well. He, too, is part of our geek world - he actually plays WoW.
He does use Microsoft Paint, too, to “draw” pictures and paint them. But I don’t think that is quite the same as what Colin is doing.
Oh, and poor Matt… He will have to get himself another computer now that Colin has taken over his.

Ack Katie! Don’t egg him on. This family does NOT need another computer yet.
Although I wonder, they must make nice durable toddler computers, right?

VTech… kiddie laptop… my daughter had one that taught stuff (reading, math, such) and I believe they have one for younger kids, too.
(I just looked it up and they do. so.. yahoo it. (Or you can find them at Walmart or Target sites.)

Getting him started on the cult of Steve Jobs early, are we? Don’t get me wrong–I love my iPod–but there’s something about that guy…

BabySplat (windows only),
http://www.syntap.com/products_babysplat.htm ,
is well if briefly reviewed,

but less feature-rich.
Interesting supplemental recommendations are iSkin or Saran Wrap on keyboard.

Don’t know about alpha baby for PC, but have a couple of friends/coworkers with Macs and AlphaBaby and they love it too.
I know that’s very helpful.
