A Weekend of Firsts…

Having a little guy who is nearly 5 months old living with you certainly predisposes one to having a “weekend of firsts,” but that doesn’t make them any less fun!

The first “first” doesn’t get a picture. We don’t want to get arrested—or have Colin hate us when he’s older—but let’s just say he “found” something for the first time this weekend. Something he normally can’t get to. Something he might find while taking a bath. It was really cute, because he was a little surprised when he found it.

Okay, he’s going to hate us anyway.

Next we had a beautiful Sunday here in Hoboken (not Jersey), so we took Colin to the baby park. He slept most of the time he was there, but when he woke up we put him in a swing! This is a pretty cute picture of him, and he even has a little bit of a smile, but I think it is safe to say he was underwhelmed by it all. Mostly he just seemed confused by why mommy and daddy were so excited and all he was doing was sitting there. A woman seated near us gave us the soundtrack for Colin’s thoughts, “mommy—why are you so far? why are you so close? why are you so far? why are you so close?”…

And then after we got home, had some din-din and mommy was off to run some errands, we started practicing sitting up. He had about 2-seconds of unsupported sitting on Friday, and then I think maybe 30 seconds on Saturday, but I had enough time earlier this evening to actually run and grab the camera and shoot a couple of photos. He was honest-to-goodness sitting there “driving” his toy (I had my own soundtrack for his thoughts this time, “hey dad—can I have the keys to the car?”) for maybe 5 minutes. It’s hard work for him, still. In some of the later photos his face is even blotchier from the exertion and he almost always ends his sessions with a pouting lower lip. But is still pretty incredible to watch him pick up steam on something new like this over the course of a single weekend!

Oooo — you can just see the furrow in his brow in the driving picture. You can tell how hard he’s concentrating! That play is really hard work, you know!
